Today the 22nd April is EARTH DAY. If you only do one thing for the environment this year leave some wildflowers in you garden for some pollinators. If you don’t have any flowers, buy some seeds and plant some. If you don’t have a garden buy a window box or pot and do the same.
It will add a sparkle to your life! My 5 year old just asked why the bee was all sparkly – I explained that it was the pollen on it!
I have lots of wild flowers and plan on planting more this year.

They are not as cuddly as bees are they!

Will hold off mowing around the spots as they flower, bloom, seed and fall for the next season. I always feel like they are a “gift” planted especially for me:)blessings!

What a lovely way to look at them – they add so much brightness too:)

I love bumbles… as you know, I have tons of bee food around here. I’ve been seeing quite a few queens, particularly on the self-sown chionodoxa. I’m hoping they lay big broods!

Yes more and more queen bees here too – most of the ones I saw yesterday were looking for nesting sights – checking out areas of long grass and little nokes and crannies in the hedgerow.

In the past I haven’t had wild flowers in my garden unless things like forget-me-nots are but it has frequently been full of all sorts of bees!

Bees aren’t too fussy – any flower that provides nectar and / or pollen is good enough for them:) But there are some of the double flower species that bees cannot get anything from but no reason we can’t enjoy them.

I love all of our wild flowers growing on our property. So beautiful and the splash of color breaks up the greens & browns of our forest. Love this photo! Happy Earth Day. I like to think everyday is earth day 🙂

Bumblebees just belong on dandelions… don’t they? 😉

We just planted some lavender and butterfly bush this spring. We have no shortage of bees but making our property more hospitable for bees, butterflies, and birds is our goal.

And a great goal to have too:)

I have seeded many more perennial flowers this year. I’ve noticed less butterflies around in the last couple years…hoping some will return if there is incentive to do so. Have you noticed a decline?

Yes, they are document declines for most species. And the weather last year didn’t help.So here’s hoping for a better summer – this spring is certainly very cool!!!

kids are so smart they really see the beauty that we take for granted…you are an inspiration. We all need to plant more for the bees! I am so weird, I pet them sometimes at night when the bumble bees climb into my flowers and sleep. lol-I am amazed how soft they look and I just have to touch..the kid never leaves us!
