In the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, which we visited in the summer, they had an area sown with arable wheat which had all the traditional arable “weeds” – which are in fact all wonderful flowers that attract many pollinators.
I liked it so much I took photos from lots of angles.
I would really love to replicate this is my own garden. In the summer it provides food for insects and in the autumn food for birds!
Really beautiful! I’d love to be walking along that sinuous path 🙂

They certainly are and such inspiration too for ones own garden.

Ah, they have a different mix in that area this year. Last year they had lots of umbellifers, pink poppies and orange marigolds – a very hot vibrant mix. I like this arable mix.

I wonder do they compare different years to see which is more popular with the pollinators. I noticed they had some trail plots of commercial seed mixes too.

A lot of ‘experts’ confuse arable weeds/flowers with wild flower hay meadows. Both are beneficial to wild life and attractive in their own way.
The BG of Wales is one of our favourite garden destinations.

It is one of my favourite gardens to visit when we are in Wales too.

So, are these arablr weeds ones that grow around the edges of a field? Lovely pictures.

In the past before people used chemicals to treat grain crops and when seed cleaning was not as efficient as it is now, these “weeds” would have been part of the whole field.

What beautiful gardens MM – I’d love to have a wander through. Much as I love any kind of flower, I think wildflowers are my very favorite.
