Yellow is this month’s photo challenge from Wild Daffodil. At this time of year dandelions should be everywhere, but the cold spring means they are only just coming. Dandelions are a great source of pollen for bumblebees. So if your lawn is awash with yellow, think twice before you cut it.

Allow the dandelions to flower and you will be providing bees with an important food source.

    You are right about their lateness – there is not one flowering in my garden, and I know there are masses there! I feel better about not getting rid of them now. Thank you for your ‘Yellow’ entry.

      How exciting, first bumbles! Those i saw a couple of weeks ago will be struggling as it is still cold, and then today it rained all day!

    So sweet! My daughter actually picked a whole bag of theme earlier this week. She wanted to try a recipe we read in a homesteading book. You fry the flower part in honey, and eat it as a sweet snacks. We haven’t actually gotten around to trying it yet.
    Yellow flowers symbolizes happiness in my world. I’ve always been attracted to yellow flowers, sunflowers being my favorite. Beautiful post 🙂

      I was thinking of how useful dandelions are for humans too, leaves for salads, flower heads for wine, but frying flower heads is a new one! Thank you

        I’ve tasted Dandelion wine a few years back, it was delicious. I haven’t used them in salad recently. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

    They are such a wonderful plant with so many uses. I have often thought that if a plant hunter discovered dandelions today they would be extremely popular as a garden plant. I did once see some for sale in a nursery, they had variegated leaves.

    I was wondering why the dandelions were so slow to appear – silly me. Saw bumble on berberis a couple of days ago & so pleased I planted the willow 2/3 years ago thanks to you. They really enjoy it when it’s not raining!
