Just had it identified as a Grey Dagger by the experts at Moths_Ireland website. A common species, who larva feed on hawthorn of which there is plenty about.
Well, hats off to the Grey Dagger – trust Nature to get the colour exactly right. Your door looks like it belongs to an ancient Historic building – one for a professional magazine?

Richard made the handle from a little bit of oak – so yes probably what they would have used in the past:)
