We have snow forecast for the end of the week, but it may not get this far west. Meanwhile spring continues to show her face.
1. Crocus, the yellow ones always bring a little bit of spring sunshine even on a grey day.
2. Willow catkins. This one is Salix x rubra I think. Always the first to show. And in recent years it seems to be coming out earlier than ever. I like the willows to be of use to emerging queen bumblebees – but this one is too early now.
3. Daffodil. Just two blooms so far. But more on the way.
4. Robin friend has already teamed up with a mate, but still comes for meal worms. We have also discovered that it likes raisins which we had left out for the blackbirds.
5. The bird feeders remain busy.
6. We have been doing quite a bit of apple and pear tree pruning. In some circumstances being quite extreme. Hoping for more fruit this year.
Thank you to The Propagator for hosting Six on Saturday.
Beautiful pictures, lovely to see signs of spring.

Looking at photos from this time last year I noticed that my early daffs are later this year. They are in bud, but last year at this date they were in flower. I sincerely hope that the really cold weather doesn’t make it this far west.

You promoted me to check my photos from last year. Yes, our mini daffs were out this time last year too, and they are only just showing – so a later spring this year here too

It’s great to have a photographic record. I’ll have to check other years now.

Oh my, such lovely flowers! It seems like winter is ending very early over there.
Why did you have to prune the trees so much? Did the branches get some sort of damage?

We had very little fruit last year and some of the trees had been poorly prunned previously (at least according to some you tube videos I watched). Hoping for more success this year:)

You get such clear signs of the seasonal changes … in South Africa one season segues into the next until you know you are too hot or too cold!

Yes I must admit I do like to see the seasons change

Sweet little robin. Those fresh yellows of the crocus and daffs are so cheering, aren’t they?

Your garden is definitely ahead of us. The ‘sun – iness’ of the yellow crocus and daffodils make me very happy. Didn’t know robins liked sultanas!

Me neither till recently – actually it is currants it is taking – they are a bit smaller. Not sure it would manage a sultana.

Thank you – yet with the cold east wind blowing today I wonder if they are regretting their flowering

Made me feel all chirpy and springlike! Thanks – raisins for blackbirds and robins, there’s a thought I’ll copy!

Yes blackbirds certainly. I don’t know if our robin had a sweet ‘tooth’ as it’s the first one I have seen taking raisins

They will go out tomorrow (the raisins) – I forgot today!

A beautiful series, MM. I love the Crocus especially. Due to the warm weather, we don’t get to see Crocus. đŸ™‚

A very cheery six. I read that apple wood is good for making things or for smoking. It certainly looks a lovely colour.

Yes we have a polish friend who likes it for his smoker.
