April brings Spring flowers. I was interested to see differences between recent years. Here are wood sorrel flowers from mid April 2018. This year they have already been in flower for a couple of weeks.
This year I first photographed Lesser Celendine in flower at the end of January. Here it was in April 2015. It has a longish flower season and is in flower along some of our local hedgerows today.
Fruit blossom is a real favourite of mine. Here are pear and June berry blossoms from the 20th April 2016. The June berry is covered in blossom already and the pear is just starting.
The crab apple is just coming out, and below is what is looked like on the 12th April 2017.
And of course I cannot pass the opportunity to post a bumblebee photograph, as while March is when we first start seeing the queen’s emerge from hibernation (though it was February this year), April is the month that we start seeing the queen’s in any numbers. And it is so nice to have them back.
Inspired by this week’s Lens artist photo challenge – Hello April.
Beautiful and such a clear blue sky xx

Very beautiful-I also have a soft spot for fruit blossom and lesser celendine. Will have to look out for some wood sorrel-it’s lovely!

Wood sorrel is lovely. I like, the contrast of the green and delicate white flowers.

Lovely blooms! Sounds like this was an exceptionally mild winter for you. While our winter was average, the cool weather lingers.

It been colder last two days, (about 4 degrees celcius plus wind chill) than it was most of the winter!

Ooh, that is cold for you. Stay warm until the weather changes.

Our plum tree is in blossom too which is really bad news because we could easily have frost again.

Yes our plum is starting to flower too – though we lost my favourite plum tree in a storm last year, so we will definitely be without those.

Nice to see flowers have appeared somewhere. We still have a while to go in my part of the world.

Thank you. It seems to be one of the most common cuckcoo bumblebee around here.

Lovely images. It seems as if flowering plants are doing very well very early this Spring. Her, there is an abundance of primroses in the garden, the cherry tree is blossoming very early, and blackthorn flowers are adorning hedgerows in bountiful numbers! So wonderful to have plentiful precipitation at the moment to encourage lushness.

Yes i have noticed blackthorn this year seems to be there in abundance.

Beautiful. I never see celandine in that quantity and the wood sorrel are beautifully delicate.

That photo was from an old graveyard, but we have some nice patches in one of our local hedgerows too.

Really pretty MM – I always loved the crabapple blossoms when I lived in the north. Must admit your photos made me miss them a bit!

I am glad it triggered a memory. Each year the tree is absolutely covered in blossom and it smells devine.

Yep… good to see the blossoms and bees!
Saw two whites patrolling sheltered hedgerows today – and saw a few sand martins…

How fascinating that you can make such an accurate comparison between the years. And such beautiful subjects to compare..
