Lens Artists Photo Challenge #27: My Travels

I enjoy traveling within my own country but am often reluctant to travel further – but sometimes you don’t have to go far to see stunning scenery. Two days ago we headed for the west coast to Doolough near Gweesalia, here in County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland.

I had to “borrow” this wonderful quote from PA Moed, as it is very true for me.

To the right you can see the Mullet Peninsula, to the left Achill Island.

The beach is a great one for shell collecting.

And at over 2km long  you can also get a very decent walk. I know there are many beautiful places out there to see and many of you have shown me some of them in your own blogs. But for my travels, I  am, so far, content with this.

    I agree, sometimes you don’t have to go far to see stunning scenery. You have captured the beauty of the beach.
    We visited a few places in Ireland this summer. I’ll always remember how beautiful it is. 🙂

    As well you should be MM. We’ve visited Ireland several times as well as Scotland and England. Beautiful countries all. I actually spent a month in Ireland as a student traveling the country and spending time with the people. It was quite magical and very different from my later visits there with my husband as we are now golfers. Need I say more?! Lovely scenery today, thanks for joining us!

      I don’t play golf but I know that Westport Golf course (Co Mayo) has the most amazing setting so would certainly recommend that one:)

    I’m with you… before reading your post, which I love, I had a thought that challenges like this are skewed!
    Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to flit around the planet… so, those of us who can’t see multiple international destinations per year… we must make use of our own backyard!
    So… you keep showing the beautiful West Coast… I’ll keep showing the stunning Sunny South East!! 😉

      Indeed AJ – I always enjoying seeing the coast there on the east from your lovely photos as I certainly don’t get to it often. Also despite our lack of travel our carbon footprint is a lot smaller – always a good thing:)

        😉 Plants need carbon… but not pollution! 🙂
        (Sorry… I’m being bold… I know… )
        We’ve been in Ireland for two weeks short of 18 years… our move to the coast just over two years is most likely one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Yes, ever made!! 🙂

    Oh, I love beaches. The first pebble beach I encountered was in Italy, along the Adriatic. I promptly lost my pearl earring. My husband went searching early the next morning and found that many of the pebbles looked like pearls, so thought he’d never find it. A fisherman found the earring for him.
