Lots and lots of tadpoles

The tadpoles have hatched and are growing quickly. They are concentrating themselves in dense clumps in the shallower water at one end of the garden pond. I suspect as they get bigger they will begin to move out.

Ours frogs usually return around St Valentines day each year and spawn with in a couple of weeks – they are always easier in a nearby drain though!

They don’t really seem to have dispersed since they hatched but I expect they will soon – if nothing else they will want a bit of space!!

Probably the most we have had. We counted just over 60 frogs in the pond this year. It’s not a big pond. There is a drain near us which has usually more frogs! But there is more vegetation cover there so not as easy to see the tadpoles.
